Europe to Fully Launch the Digital Euro in 2029

Europe is preparing for a major step - the introduction of the digital euro. According to the European Central Bank, this new form of currency is expected to enter mass circulation in July 2029. The first stage of the project will begin in 2027 and serve as a kind of “rehearsal” before the full rollout.

The digital euro will coexist with traditional cash and bank cards, offering faster and more secure payments. Its issuance has already been approved by EU member states, and the European Parliament has backed the idea of building it on the central bank’s infrastructure.

The global financial landscape is shifting, with international payment systems and dollar‑based stablecoins gaining influence. To safeguard financial independence and strengthen the euro’s position, European policymakers and economists are pushing for an accelerated launch.

The digital euro is more than just a technological innovation. It represents Europe’s determination to keep pace with global change and shape the future of the financial system.
