Ghana launches regulatory sandbox for cryptocurrency platforms

The Ghana Securities and Exchange Commission (GSEC) has selected 11 cryptocurrency trading platforms to participate in a 12-month project within a new regulatory "sandbox." These platforms will test their products and services in a controlled environment under GSEC supervision, in accordance with the country's Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) Act. After the first six months, platforms with market-ready solutions will be able to transition to full licensing. The data collected will help shape future licensing rules as Ghana aims to establish a formal regulatory framework for digital assets. This move is part of Ghana's efforts to regulate its growing cryptocurrency market, which is already widely used by the population.
