Financial Race: Crypto Moves Faster, Banks Stay Cautious

Stijn Vander Straeten

Stijn Vander Straeten, CEO of Crypto Finance, a subsidiary of Deutsche Börse, stated that banks will not be able to dominate the cryptocurrency market. According to him, the key advantage of crypto platforms lies in their speed of innovation: they already provide instant settlements and 24/7 trading, including weekends, which is especially attractive to young investors.

Banks, however, Van der Straten emphasized, are forced to coordinate new technologies with regulators, and this process can stretch over 5-10 years. Despite this, financial institutions retain the trust of professional investors thanks to strict regulation and high security standards.

In Europe and the U.S., clear rules for working with crypto assets are gradually taking shape, paving the way for more transparent interaction between traditional banks and the crypto sector. Yet, as the head of Crypto Finance noted, it is precisely the flexibility and agility of crypto platforms that make them leaders in the race for the attention of a new generation of investors.
