New Law Proposal: Digital Assets and Inheritance in Kyrgyzstan

The Central Bank of Kyrgyzstan has proposed a bill that would allow the inheritance of funds in electronic wallets, but with a significant restriction: only assets denominated in the national currency, such as the KGST token, could be inherited. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are proposed to be excluded from the inheritance estate.

The bill aims to equate electronic money with civil law objects, which would make it possible to inherit digital wallets on par with bank accounts. In the absence of heirs, funds may be directed to the state budget. Despite the existing law regulating digital assets, crypto assets are not transferred by inheritance.
